Fred is 100!

You know whenever a fashion icon celebrates a monumental occasion, the design houses almost always come up with a limited edition collection for the rest of us to join in the celebration? Well, Fred Perry has just done that!

The month of May marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Frederick John Perry, who (in case some of you are too ignorant) was the world's No. 1-ranked tennis player for five years in the thirties and is still the last Englishman to win the singles crown at Wimbledon and the U.S., French, and Australian Opens. It is said that Mr. Perry was the man who invented the now-standard practice of aggressively hitting tennis balls on the rise, rather than waiting for them to float safely at the top of their arc.

Besides being such a legendary tennis icon, he is also legendary in iconic branding. Like, seriously, after all these years, when asked about Fred Perrry, everyone thinks of polo t-shirts on top of Polo Ralph Lauren but that is just pfft. You get what I mean?

Anyway, in honor of the occasion, his namesake company is releasing a special edition of polos with enlarged 16-leaf laurels in three palettes. They do not look any much different from the standard ones but I think that is a plus point! I mean, like all the special edition collections that's out there, you do not really wear it alot cause it becomes so dated after a while. Ay least, with the Fred Perry's polo, it will look normal on first glance and it doesn't scream 2009 when you wear it again in 2012. So, it costs US$95, available May 15, fredperry.com.

Only at fredperry.com? I'm a very touch, feel and try kinda shopper, I wish they will have it at the boutique down at Ann Siang.
