Christian Lacroix Costumier, a must see!

Over the weekend, my two youngest siblings and I went to see the Christian Lacroix Costumier exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore which I must say, is beautiful beyond words. All of usl agreed that the word of the day is 'drama'.

Everything was dramatic! The sets were dramatic and so were the costumes. The exhibition was so intelligently choreographed that it feels alive. Not only is it an exhibition on his creations but it is also a tribute to opera, ballet and theater. , On closer observation, you find more surprises like the intricate embroidery and decorative stitching.

You could see some influence from his costumes to his ready-to-wear collection. I mean, look at the pale pink corset worn underneath a short jacket paired with a pale skirt over tailored pants. Imagine that being designed so long ago.

One thing that we realise is that, the collections are not only dramatic but it breathes, moves and lives. We could really understand what he meant when he said "his costumes have to give the performers a complete transformation" and also provide them strength and support not only physically, appearance-wise, but also spiritually. Magnificent! A great costumier, indeed!
