The Budget Tai-tai in me!

The economy has not been looking good lately with the GDP expecting to dip by at least 2% than earlier projections. The crunch is being felt everywhere and everyone is fearing of losing their jobs. Businesses are bad everywhere with many fashion retailers complaining of a drop in their sales revenue. I believe in these bad times, our little 'auntie' mentality kicks in. You know, those aunties at the markets who bargain for things to be at least 10 cents cheaper! Well, I think my little 'auntie' within me has woken up! I've become a budget tai-tai. As such, I have been around and about looking for the best deals in town.

Just recently, my sister and I made a trip down to Marina Square and hold and behold, CLUBMARC are having huge sale. When I say huge, I mean like really H-U-G-E! Everything was going at like 70% off. It was my first time ever in CLUBMARC and I never knew their clothes are pretty darn cheap! I mean I bought this pair of pants for only SGD59.90! I think those are my cheapest pair of pants ever!

Also, for those of you who love your printed tees, my next find is definitely for you! Over the weekend, we decided to visit Sculpture Square to shop! Yes, Sculpture Square! There was this flea market where 30% of the profits go to the MILK Fund. So, why not do our part and help the less fortunate? (Well, it makes splurging more meaningful!) Anyway, I managed to get this Paul Smith polo-T there! Is not the pink gorgeous?

(By the way, this is not me! I do not look like that! I may have put on a lil bit of weight but I am still way slimer than that!)

Of course all of you who love your Paul Smith, Paul Frank and all your graphic tees would have freaked out! Apparently, these t-shirts are being brought in by duc-tape. It is rumoured that they might be designing their own t-shirts next year, so we will have to wait and see! Go and check out their sites and drop them your details and they can update you on their latest arrivals. Visit them here.

Pardon for my long absence!

Pardon me for my freakishly long absence from this site. I have been very busy! In addition to that, my computer kinda crashed and I finally get it up and running again! All thanks to my computer doctor!

I will get back to writing soon with more fashion steals and finds! Check back again in a few days time!

Cheers!

Gong Li a Singaporean.

It seems that the Chinese superstar, Gong Li, has officially become a Singaporean last Saturday. She accepted her citizenship at the Teck Ghee Community Center with another 149 new citizens. Her move to be a Singaporean has sparked criticisms from chinese nationals, many of whom labeled her as a traitor to the country. Many accused her as being ungrateful to her birth place. There are those too who defended her.

Personally, I think the whole issue has been blown way out of proportion just because she is a celebrity. I mean, how many former chinese nationals who are Singaporeans now? Just look at our Olympic medalist for the game of table tennis, aren't they all former chinese nationals? Isn't it like an extremely common thing for people to emigrate? Just take a look at many former Singaporeans, many of them migrated to places like Australia, United States and such. Ain't that just part of life now? Our forefathers are from all over the world, aye? All I have to say is too bad for them that Gong Li chose to be a Singaporean and too bad for us that many Singaporeans give up their citizenship. This is life, aye?

Vic as a Maharani

This is not another post on celebs dressing up for halloween! I think halloween is pretty much over now. However, I must say that Victoria Beckhams look absolutely stunning as an Indian Princess on the cover of this month's issue of Vogue, India. Its so refreshing to see her with very natural make up and almost nude lips with a hint of pink. Now, ladies, that is a trick that you should take note of especially as you get older. Nude, slightly pinkish lips creates fuller lips as the contrast between your skin and lips are lessen. This works marvelously well for anyone with thin lips, add a little gloss to make it healthier.

More Celeb Halloween!

Look at what I found! More celebs dressed for Halloween! My favourite is Heidi Klum as an Indian Goddess! I don't think anyone has tried that before! Genius!

My pick for the "Whaat?? " look will go to Demi Moore who, together with boyfriend, Ashton Kutcher, dressed up as nipples!

The rest are just average with Pink as a clown, Hillary Duff and boyfriend as Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt respectively ( not the other way round, though that would be interesting!). Not forgetting Kate Moss as a some villain and Kate Beckinsale as Little (well, not that little) Red Riding Hood.

Emmy 2008

Well, the Emmy Awards 2008 was just held today and here are some of the best dressed and the worst too! Pick your favorite! Vanessa Williams and America Ferrera from Ugly Betty looks alright in black and white! Nothing special to me, but still presentable!
The ladies of the Desperate Housewives look pretty stunning with their bold choices especially the yellow dress worn by Teri Hatcher and that purple dress worn by Nicolette Sheridan! And I pretty much love the shimmery silver dress worn by Eva Longoria. I think she will probably be one of the few people who can carry it off!

Blue too seems to be a color of choice for this year's Emmy's as seen by the pale blue dress worn by Christina Applegate and that bright blue dress worn by Mary-Louise Parker.
And now, what was she thinking? What's with the pom-pom like fire engine red hat?

New Angel on board!

Victoria Secret has a new angel! Yes, this new angel is Marissa Miller who acted in Black Hawk Down and debuted in 1997 for Perfect 10 Magazine and soon graced covers of Vogue, Fitness and Shape magazines.

Joely Richardson blinds us!

Joely Richardson, who appeared in Nip/Tuck Season 5 sure blinded everyone in London recently, and in a not-so-good way. In the recent London Fashion Week, she was spotted in this extremely reflective top which kinda reminds me of an armour! haha! What was she thinking?

J.Lo, No!

No J.Lo for the finale of Project Runway down at New York Fashion Week. The rumours, however, were actually true. Jennifer Lopez was supposed to guest judge the season's finale show but she did not appear in it anyway. Apparently, she hurt her foot! Yeah, hurt her foot that she can't sit on a chair and judge! haha! Oh well, what an excuse J.Lo. Anyway, Tim Gunn filled in the seat which makes it another reason to watch the finale!

J.Lo, the next Posh?

Fashion Week has been in full swing for the past week in New York and many A listers and fashion fanatics graced the shows. One celebrity who definitely grabbed attention this year is well, Victoria Beckhams. She is sporting such a short short hair now which is very refreshing and definitely looks good on her! Look at those cheekbones! haha!
Another celebrity who was spotted alongside Ms Becks, is J.Lo. Apparently, there has been rumours that J.Lo will be the secret judge for project runway. Having her spotted with the previous guest judge for Project Runway 4's finals, Victoria Beckhams, one can't help but wonder. Well, there is only one way to find out. Just wait and see.

America's Next Top Model and Prime time TV firsts!

The latest season of America's Next Top Model (ANTM) has started airing in the US. This season will feature a whole new line up of potential models including a transgendered model. Even though there are many transgendered models in the industry, having one featured on primetime TV is a first.

ANTM's resident judge and talented fashion photographer, Nigel Barker has this to say,
"One of the things about the fashion industry, is that there have been many transgender models over the years. It’s very legitimate in our industry. It’s a bit shocking for prime-time TV, but it opens peoples’ eyes.”

Black, white and blue in summer 09

I was just watching D&G's Spring/ Summer 2009 fashion show during the Milan Fashion Week and I must say I love it. The collection was pretty much dominated by blacks, white and navy blues with Madonna's Four Minutes pumping up the runway. Of course, it was no where near four minutes. The show started out with tailored suits, both in white and black as well as in between.

Another thing that was constant throughout the collection were the lining! Almost all of the outfits were lined in a different color or design. Also, the shirts worn were all pretty tailored and have little detailings to them which creates a very modern and clean look.

One of those detailings that I love are the different lapels for the buttons. The contrast between pattern and blocks and colors adds a little jazz to the shirts. Oh, did I mention the use of shinning satin! Quite sexy, I must say.

As much as I love all things shiny and glittering, I don't quite dig the super glittery jacket! I find it way too disco! The silver jacket is slightly more bearable but definitely not the bronze one!

The collection were getting a little bit monotonous half way through the show but before they lost me, they introduced patterns into the collection which I found quite refreshing. From jackets to shirts to pants, patterns were introduced everywhere.

Of course, its never D&G without the tight shorts! Haha! If only I was adventurous enough to wear them out. By the way, love the sandals! I am so saving up for those!

And of course, D&G will always have their sporty outfits every time they put on a show, so here they are.

And the show ended with the models walked out dressed in full white satin suits, complete with bow ties and those raybans! I am not throwing them away. Seems like we will be using them again next summer!
