Olympic Fashion 2008

Now, since the Beijing Summer Olympics is well under way with our little island bringing home a silver medal in table tennis, I thought we should highlight a couple of uniforms worn for the meet. Of course, the biggest hu-ha is the uniform for USA which was designed by Ralph Lauren. Its super preppy which is a signature style of Polo Ralph Lauren. They have the suit and the slightly more casual look. How I wish my school uniform back in the days were designed by Ralph Lauren! Japan's uniform has been unveiled in a ceremony in Tokyo and was modelled by their athletes two weeks prior to the games. I would say its not too bad. The Aussies too decide to play it safe with their uniform but of course still retain their suits with a slight hue of blue. Not to forget matching bags. Also, their shoes are by Mileno.
The Spanish love their reds and yellow and thus, their color of choice for their uniform. Really bright, I must say.
The Russians love their hats and it has become part of their uniform! Red, blue and white are the nation's color! Thankfully, the guys were blue and the ladies wear red or the three colors mixed together will make the outfit kinda confusing. Great Britain are known for their effortless style and it shows in their uniform. Perfect for a walk at the English Countryside. The Brazillians too opted for a more casual feel to their uniform! Perfect for a nation of sambas and fiestas! And my favourite uniform would be by the French. Yes, France's outfit is very unique and stylish! Kinda reminds me of DKNY's Spring/ Summer 08 collections where crisp shirts are paired with shorts and finished with an obi belt! Gorgeous!
I have to mention that the dresses worn by China's hostess during the victory ceremonies are quite beautiful too. The ivory or white silk qi pao with cloud designs in various color are very elegant. They also have it in like knee length dresses and full length ones. I saw them during the swimming victory ceremonies which have blue linings and the athletics victory ceremony which have green linings. If only I can get hold of pictures of it to show you guys!
Oh well, uniforms reflect a country's personality and I am sure each one of them are designed with pride and thought!
