Gong Li a Singaporean.

It seems that the Chinese superstar, Gong Li, has officially become a Singaporean last Saturday. She accepted her citizenship at the Teck Ghee Community Center with another 149 new citizens. Her move to be a Singaporean has sparked criticisms from chinese nationals, many of whom labeled her as a traitor to the country. Many accused her as being ungrateful to her birth place. There are those too who defended her.

Personally, I think the whole issue has been blown way out of proportion just because she is a celebrity. I mean, how many former chinese nationals who are Singaporeans now? Just look at our Olympic medalist for the game of table tennis, aren't they all former chinese nationals? Isn't it like an extremely common thing for people to emigrate? Just take a look at many former Singaporeans, many of them migrated to places like Australia, United States and such. Ain't that just part of life now? Our forefathers are from all over the world, aye? All I have to say is too bad for them that Gong Li chose to be a Singaporean and too bad for us that many Singaporeans give up their citizenship. This is life, aye?
