Bring this to NMS please!!

I really wish that they will bring Waist Down- The Skirt by Miuccia Prada to Singapore after the recent Christian Lacroix stint. I'll be thrilled to see those works of art.

However, if you are pretty impatient and pessimistic, you can always go down to Seoul's Transformer building starting from next month.

The first Waist Down exhibition was staged from 2004-2005 in the Prada store in the Aoyama district of Tokyo. Following another Asian incarnation, in the Peace Hotel in Shanghai, the exhibition travelled to Prada in SoHo, New York, and then on to Prada on Rodeo Drive Beverly Hills. Apparently, the exhibition takes care to adopt a little of its local environment, changing each time to reflect the fashions of its surroundings.

Let's just hope it makes its stop here in Singapore!!

Christian Lacroix Costumier, a must see!

Over the weekend, my two youngest siblings and I went to see the Christian Lacroix Costumier exhibition at the National Museum of Singapore which I must say, is beautiful beyond words. All of usl agreed that the word of the day is 'drama'.

Everything was dramatic! The sets were dramatic and so were the costumes. The exhibition was so intelligently choreographed that it feels alive. Not only is it an exhibition on his creations but it is also a tribute to opera, ballet and theater. , On closer observation, you find more surprises like the intricate embroidery and decorative stitching.

You could see some influence from his costumes to his ready-to-wear collection. I mean, look at the pale pink corset worn underneath a short jacket paired with a pale skirt over tailored pants. Imagine that being designed so long ago.

One thing that we realise is that, the collections are not only dramatic but it breathes, moves and lives. We could really understand what he meant when he said "his costumes have to give the performers a complete transformation" and also provide them strength and support not only physically, appearance-wise, but also spiritually. Magnificent! A great costumier, indeed!

Lacroix at NMS

Seems like Christian Lacroix reached town sooner than the Audi Fashion Festival. The legendary haute couture designer who made his mark during the 80s with his flamboyant and opulent creations presents his exquisite costume design work at the National Museum of Singapore from the previous friday all the way til the 7th of June at the Museum's Exhibition Gallery 1 and The Canyon.

Close to 80 splendid costumes and about 60 sketches from the collection of Centre National du Costume de Scène (National Stage Costume Centre, Moulins, France) and from Lacroix’s personal collection will be on display.

There will be guided tours daily as well as interactive activities for the young ones. If you fancy some serious art appreciation, you can always go for the curator's tour on 9th April and 22 May at 7pm.

I, myself, will be goin down soon! Its much cheaper than watching a movie! So that's another thing to do during these recession times!

I will share my thoughts and pictures of the exhibitions soon!
